Message That was one reason for the slowdown. I believe this was in last week's Autoweek. They have claimed to have fixed the problem and resumed production at this point.

Here's the full blurb:
"M3 Delayed no more
BMW officials say engine manufacturing problems that delayed production of its hot 2001 M3 coupe are resolved and deliveries to US dealerships should being any day now. The car was initially scheduled for a US debut in January, but unspecified engine problems pushed the schedule back by about two months. Production began in January.

A cabrio model, which had been scheduled to precede the coupe by several months, is now just a few weeks behind its hartop mate. The M3 comes to the United States with a 333-hp, 3.2-liter, inline six-cylinder engine."
